I Wanted to Know

I wanted to know what people feel

when they feel safe.

So, like a little girl,

I went to my riverbed bedroom

where the leaves above

sway and pray

like baby ghosts—

for whom, I couldn't yet say.

But as I prayed in beauty

with just my eyes,

O moon, you told me

why you shine—

Something like,

Because you are the sun.

I reflect you and—

we are always one.

Now when I'm afraid

I look to the blue

and see how secure

I am tucked inside the sky.

The sky that I belong to

and belongs to me

with grace,

like my own sovereign face.

Now I know what Goddess feels

when She feels safe,

hauntingly beautiful,

and limerence for

every phase

of her fate.
