ANSWER TO A CHILD'S QUESTION

Do you ask what the birds say? The Sparrows, the Doves,

The Linnet and Thrush say, "I love and I love!"

In the winter they're silent—the wind is so strong;

What it says, I don't know, but it sings a loud song.

But green leaves, and blossoms, and sunny warm weather,

And singing, and loving—all come back together.

But the lark is so brimful of gladness and love,

The green fields below him, the blue sky above,

That he sings, and he sings, and for ever sings he—

"I love my Love, and my Love loves me!"

— Samuel Taylor Coleridge

RAPUNZEL'S REFLECTIONS

Larks are known for singing while rising high into the sky, and then drifting back down still singing. They can be a symbol of freedom and joy without reason. A skylark's song has extraordinary endurance and lasts longer than most songbirds. Larks live in fields, grasslands and open spaces rather than forests. It's as if their song belongs to the sky, freedom itself.

  1. What might change, if you prioritized nurturing the skylark within your soul?

  1. What would it look like, to care for your inner skylark as you go about your daily life?

  1. What is another name or label for your the skylark within your soul?

  1. When it feels like winter and you cannot connect to the lark within, how would you like to be cared for?

  2. During times that feel like winter, how would you like to keep faith in the birds and the return of warm seasons?

  1. Reread the last four lines of the poem again please. Recall a time in your life you felt similar. How had you been caring for yourself at that time?

Thank you for slowing down and taking this time for yourself soft soul.

Warmly,

Rapunzel
